The twelth and thirteenth volumes of the Series ‘Cultural Inquiry’ have just been released by the publisher Turia + Kant. Both volumes are the results of conferences organized at the ICI Berlin in 2012 and 2015, respectively.
Conatus und Lebensnot: Schlüsselbegriffe der Medienanthropologie, ed. by Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky and Anna Tuschling, studies two concepts central to current media-anthropological understandings of the relation between media and life. Conatus and Lebensnot, persistence and need, allow to situate the ways in which questions about the human are continually reconfigured in discourses about media technology, and profoundly changed as a result.
Aura und Experiment: Naturwissenschaft und Technik bei Walter Benjamin, ed. by Kyung-Ho Cha, reflects on Benjamin’s own engagement with technology and the natural sciences, but also mobilizes his concepts and model for the historiography of knowledge, science, and technology.
