Screening and Artist Talk
Thursday, May 24 2018, 19:00
FRACTO (ACUD Studio)
Veteranenstraße 21
10119 Berlin
The opening night of FRACTO – Experimental Film Encounter will feature an artist talk between ICI Fellow Cristina Baldacci and artists Maria Iorio and Raphaël Cuomo, who will present their film Appunti del passaggio (2014-16).
Reconstructing forgotten episodes related to migration from Italy to Switzerland in the 1960s, the film introduces a minor perspective into the ways in which the historical phenomenon of migration from southern to northern Europe is represented today, testing the validity of history and exposing it to the first-hand accounts of those who actually made the passage.
Maria Iorio and Raphaël Cuomo’s collaborative artistic practice involves long-term archival research, and has been focusing on the economies of visibility in relation to past and present mobility regimes over the southern and northern shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
FRACTO is an annual Experimental Film Encounter, hosted by ACUD MACHT NEU, Berlin, inviting artists and filmmakers to present works that explore today’s perceptual landscape and interrogate its technological configurations.
