Autotheory, autofiction, and related genres, such as auto-sociobiography or mythobiography show the interplay between theorizations of personal life, subjectivity and historical or collective experience. This workshop explores the history of these forms, and is interested in their genealogies, as well as in the politics and aesthetics of subjectivity, especially in the moments when these practices have intensified. 

The organizers welcome proposals for 20-minute talks. Abstracts of 300 words and short bios should be sent by 15 March 2026 to  theselfatscale@ici-berlin.org

This workshop will address the role of scale and quantity in thinking novelty. Must one abandon classical theories of knowledge in order to conceive of an ever more expansive, transversal, and plural field of experience? Or is novelty rather to be thought by focusing on paradoxes in certain situated knowledges, such as intensities experienced without scale, emergence in scale invariance, or phenomena that are negative in a new sense, like a zero that is not nothing?

However, they are often deceptive and of questionable legibility. They are also inaccessible to non-specialists and often de-contextualized.

In selbstdokumentarischen Praktiken verbunden mit den Wirkungen des Testosterons auf die Körper offenbart sich trans* Sein als ein komplexes und ungewisses Werden, das in medialer Umgebung als queere Zeitlichkeit erfahrbar wird. Hierbei stehen die Effekte der Mediatisierung im Fokus der Analyse.
