Die Geschichtlichkeit der brGegenwartskunst

Die Geschichtlichkeit der
Gegenwartskunst

Wahrheit und Aktualität der Niederländischen Malerei

Discussion, 9 May 2022, 19:30

Public Livestream available
Registration required: In-Person at the ICI Berlin

Self-Reflection and Reduction
in the Language of Lyric

William Franke

Lecture, 16 May 2022, 19:30

Lyric is the language of self-reflection – and is self-reflexive language – par excellence. The question will be: Is self-reflection necessarily a reduction to the self? or, How can self-reflection effect a dissolution of the self and a breaking open to the Other?

Part of the Lecture Series  Reduction

Public Livestream available
Registration required: In-Person at the ICI Berlin

Postcolonial-Queer-Feminist Perspectives

Workshop, 20 May 2022, 15:30-18:00

Is the formative concept of intersectionality an efficacious tool for achieving (gender) justice for marginalized constituencies or does it inadvertently consolidate the hegemony of an entitled majority by failing to realize the emancipatory possibilities it promises?

With María do Mar Castro Varela and Nikita Dhawan

An event of the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with ICI Berlin

As part of the festival  Frequencies. Sharing Feminisms

Unfortunately, the workshop is fully booked.

Against Women

Femi(ni)cide is defined as the homicide of women and girls. This extreme form of gender-based violence is often associated with certain regions of the world, rather than being recognized as a global problem.

With Hannah Beeck, Valeria España, Meena Kandasamy, and Aleida Luján Pinelo
moderated by Pearl Brilmyer

Freud’s Seduction: The California Dream and a Future Psychoanalysis

Fernando Castrillon

Lecture, 24 May 2022, 20:00

While an analysis of Freud’s reception is an interesting question to ask of any place, in other words how psychoanalysis came to take root (or not) in a specific locale and time, it becomes a particularly noteworthy interrogation when one considers the peculiar case of California and its history of émigré analysts, such as Siegfried Bernfeld, Ernst Simmel, and Otto Fenichel, who fled to the state in the 1930s.

Part of the lecture series Psychoanalytische Kulturwissenschaft

The lecture series is a cooperation of the Berlin Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (BiPP), the Cultural Science Institute of the Humboldt University Berlin, the International Psychoanalytic University (IPU), and the ICI Berlin, organized by Wilhelm Brüggen (BIPP), Monika Englisch (BIPP) and Andreas Gehrlach (HU Berlin), funded by the Friedrich Stiftung.

Public Livestream available
Registration required: Registration opens on 10 May 2022

Lecture, 13 Jun 2022, 19:30

Contemporary societies are often described in terms of network metaphors and theories informed by an ‘ethos of connectivity’. Many contemporary social theories operate with a normative bias toward networking.
