Class Struggle in the Psychoanalytic Consulting Room

Lecture, 1 Mar 2022, 20:00

Focusing on examples by British psychoanalysts, including Marion Milner and Christopher Bollas, this talk will attempt to construct an alternative to existing analyses of the encounter between Marxism and psychoanalysis that focus on abstract theories by grounding itself instead in socially and economically contextualised accounts of clinical practice.

Part of the lecture series Psychoanalytische Kulturwissenschaft

The lecture series is a cooperation of the Berlin Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (BiPP), the Cultural Science Institute of the Humboldt University Berlin, the International Psychoanalytic University (IPU), and the ICI Berlin, organized by Wilhelm Brüggen (BIPP), Monika Englisch (BIPP) and Andreas Gehrlach (HU Berlin), funded by the Friedrich Stiftung Hannover

The Animism of brModern Property

The Animism of
Modern Property

Monique David-Ménard

Lecture, 3 Mar 2022, 19:30

In 1842, Karl Marx denounced a new law prohibiting the poor from pilfering fallen wood in the forests of the Rhineland. He saw in this apparently local case a major transformation of modern societies. By identifying which new anthropology serves as the basis for the legal invention of property rights, which make things face the wills of owners, Marx affirms a strange proximity between human beings and inanimate things.

Workshop, 4 Mar 2022, 14:00

Objects are produced and exchanged, desired and transferred. While they can be said to condense and contain the ‘real’ of social relations, they never become fully transparent.

Theorizing Through brthe Global South

Theorizing Through
the Global South

Workshop, 10-11 Mar 2022, 14:00

How is it possible to theorize not only on the so-called Global South, but also in, from, and through it? What appears as the universal often involves a gesture of generalization, flattening and dominating the particular, predominantly from a Eurocentric perspective.

Organized by Iracema Dulley and Özgün Eylül İşcen

Registration required: In-person at ICI Berlin or joining via Video
