Theater und Topologie

Jedes Theater beginnt mit einer Grenzziehung, jede Aufführung teilt einen Raum auf. Sei es die Aufteilung zwischen Zuschauersaal und Bühne, zwischen  städtischem Raum und Theatersaal, zwischen performativem Raum und repräsentierten Orten; sei es das Theater als Repräsentation des Hofes oder Versammlungsort der Polis – seit jeher zeichnet das Theater eine Politik des Raumes aus, die sich je nach Epoche und kulturellem Selbstverständnis verändert hat. Die Tagung möchte versuchen, sowohl historisch als auch auf das Gegenwartstheater bezogen, das Verhältnis von Theater und Topologie aus neuen Blickwinkeln zu betrachten und dabei der Frage auf den Grund zu gehen: Inwiefern ist der theatrale Raum und dessen Aufteilung politisch?

Politics of Space. Theatre and Topology

Theatre starts with a demarcation and setting of boundaries – a constitution
 of spatial and social limits. Be it  the placement of a theatre hall within an urban space, the partitioning and distribution between audience and stage, the boundary between physical space and represented places, or theatre as the representation of the court or the gathering of the polis: The politics of space has characterized the performing arts throughout history, even though its parameters vary from era to era. In three sections the conference will address the relationship between theatre and topology from new angles.
