Electronic scans (preferrably as pdf) of official documents are sufficient for the application, but please note that if you are selected and accept the fellowship, you will be asked to sign your application and certify its correctness before beginning the fellowship at the ICI Berlin.
The fellowships announced are meant for individuals at the beginning of their career. While there is no age limit, fellows must have received a degree of higher education (BA, MA, PhD, Habil or equivalent) within ten years of the date of appointment. This rule may be changed in future announcements, but we cannot make exceptions at this point as it would not be fair towards those who are (rightly) held off from applying due to this rule.
The character count includes spaces and footnotes.
Additional information such as a bibliography may be added separately, if you don't consider it to be essential for the application. That is: only what is within the indicated character limit is certain to be read and considered for the evaluation.
The abstract and proposal of your application must be in English or German.
For the work samples, French, Italian and Spanish are also acceptable due to the current composition of the selection board. A short abstract or summary in English or German would however be appreciated.
As the selection comittee is distributed over several countries and we do not have the resources to duplicate and forward non-electronic documents, it does not make much sense to send us such documents by regular mail.
If you cannot send your documents in an e-mail message of less than 2 MB, please make them available on a website.
In any case, please note that we cannot return any material that you mail to us, unless you include a self-addressed envelope etc. with postage or arrange otherwise to have the material picked up again.
Fellows are provided with an office (shared by two) equipped with a computer and standard office software. Unfortunately, we cannot provide other spaces such as ateliers.
The conference room can be used in manifold ways, but due to regular events only for a short time. The library can host small exhibitions, but as its entrance is on the second floor, their public exposure is somewhat limited. While Berlin offers a broad range of cultural and artistic facilities of all kinds, the ICI Berlin does not yet have any close relationships with them, nor the expertise or resources to facilitate them.
Please note that no significant budget for production or exhibition costs is currently available in addition to the stipends. Should your project require it, your application should indicate how you intend to secure it from other sources.
